Lift Inspection
Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), it is a legal obligation for lift owners and duty holders to ensure that all lifting equipment, including lifts used to carry people or goods, undergoes routine, competent examinations.
This applies to a wide range of lifting systems, including:
- Passenger Lifts
- Goods Lifts
- Service Lifts
- Platform Lifts
- Stair Lifts
- Home Lifts
- Scissor Lift (Goods & Persons)
These inspections are distinct from standard lift servicing and are designed to assess the safety-critical elements of your lift installation, much like an MOT for your vehicle. They help identify wear, defects, or potential failures before they become hazardous.
We understand that arranging statutory lift inspections can seem like a disruption to your daily operations, especially in busy commercial, public, or residential environments. That’s why we work around your schedule, ensuring examinations are carried out efficiently, discreetly, and with as little interruption as possible.
Our experienced engineers conduct LOLER examinations in accordance with the latest regulations, providing comprehensive documentation to demonstrate compliance and help you remain audit-ready at all times.
A Thorough Examination Should Include:
- Landing and car doors and their interlocks;
- Gearing;
- Main drive system components including motor;
- All governors;
- Safety gear components;
- Steel suspension ropes;
- Overload detection devices;
- Electrical devices (including earthing, earth bonding, safety devices, etc);
- Braking systems (including buffers and overspeed devices); and
- Hydraulics (if applicable).
How often should a Test be carried out?
Every six months for lifting equipment used for lifting/lowering persons. E.g. passenger lifts, access platforms and home lifts.
